Datebook of Celebrations in Marbella

Marbella Date Book of Celebrations which take place in the Marbella region of Andalucia,Costa del Sol, Spain.

   5th January   (Three Holy Kings / Wise Men,)   This is a traditional Spanish festival which takes place around the centre of Marbella town, where three local people dress in costume and parade on horses throughout Marbella town, distributing sweets and small gifts to the children who line the pavements.

First half of February Parade - A fashionable Spanish carnival festivity occurs, with a number of processions and merriments take place in and around Marbella.

Mid-March, Marks Holy Week - Holy Week in Marbella,  is celebrated with many sacred festivities  which lead up to Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

Mid-April, Market of the Documentary European and Latin American (MERCADOC) -, an important multi-media television event held annually in Malaga, approximately 36 miles from Marbella, which is attended by around 50 countries.

First half of May Romeria of the Juanar Cross -, this significant fiesta dates back late 1800’s, with a series of proceedings taking place in the area of the Sierra Blanca Mountain.

Marbella  celebrations in June - Marbella, Andalucia, Costa del Sol, Spain

First half of June   A carnival held in Torremolinos, 36 miles from Marbella, encouraging both locals and tourists to join together in, Dia del Pescaito (Fried Fish Day) -, there are also beach events held on the Playa de La Carihuela.

Middle of June    During the week closest to June 11th, San Bernabé gala and Summer Fair is held in memory of the Parton Saint of Marbella, this festival continues all week and  includes things such as bullfights in the town centre, eating and tasting good Spanish wine, and a Fierier which is a Spanish fair which travels around the costal  area , together with horse drawn carriages which you can ride in and with many festivities located in the Old Town area of Marbella, the Plaza San Bernabé and Alameda Park.

Middle of June   One of the largest spiritual events takes place on the streets of Marbella. This event is marked with many festive celebrations with street entertainers, firework displays midnight dipping in the sea. These activities take place throughout Spain as they have a very strong religious following with the church. This festive celebration is called de San Juan (Feast of St. John) -,

Late June   Another festivity which is held in near Malaga which is approximately 36 miles from the Marbella town area. This is a Movie festival and screens most of the newly released films at a number of theatres and Cinemas around Malaga.

Marbella celebrations in July - Marbella, Andalucia, Costa del Sol, Spain 

Middle of July   La Virgen del Carmen – This mid summer event is very spectacular and takes place in the Puerto Banus area of Marbella. Numerous villages along the costal region take part in this religious event with both masses held in many local Chapels and fishing boat fleets travelling along the coast to the port of Banus. Sacred church statues are stored in caves beneath the sea and the evening ends with a spectacular display of fireworks.

Middle of August  Feria de Malaga -, This is one of the longest days in the year  in Marbella, where everyone celebrates in the most fantastic Spanish way, with traditional Flamenco dancing with girls and boys, men and women dressed in traditional costume, outside concerts, plenty of Spanish music mixed together with street  parties, with fancy dress costumes, authentic Spanish music and Flamenco dancing, general street activities with the whole family taking part, outdoor concerts and plenty of night-long celebrations  of wine and good Spanish food. This cultural experience is one not to be missed.

•Middle of August   Celebrations of the patron saint, Nuestra Senora de la Victoria. Many pilgrims travel to Malaga each year to pay their respect; they come on horseback and traditional horse and carriages to be part of this day of homage.

Middle of August   A Virgin Fair this event takes place in Malaga 36 miles from Marbella and is a vivacious event of dancing and wine tasting.

Marbella Celebrations in September - Marbella, Andalucia, Costa del Sol, Spain

First Half of September   this event of international Movie Week attracts many of the celebrities to the Marbella and Puerto Banus town, the directors of many films are seen in these areas during this period trying to promote their latest films. Many different screenings of films take place in the Gran Marbella complex and many awards are also received during this event. The Spanish call it the Semana Internacional de Cine.

Marbella celebrations in October - Marbella, Andalucia, Costa del Sol, Spain

Middle of October   Celebrating in San Pedro de Alcantara continues late into the year and on or around the 19th October the streets of San Pedro are decorated and many celebrations and parties take place both night and day.

•A carnival is held to celebrate the times gone by of Spain,  these events are held at a mixture of venues around Marbella.

October 12th is National Festival Day

Marbella celebrations in November - Marbella, Andalucia, Costa del Sol, Spain

•Fiesta del Tostón (Day of Toston) - Held in the early part of  November, this extraordinary sacred  event has become a key element of  life in Marbella .Year on year in the month of November, with All Saints' Day celebrations on November 1st, together with chestnut roasting and other local specialities, drinks, overnight camping and partying until the early hours of the morning takes place.

Marbella celebrations in December - Marbella, Andalucia, Costa del Sol, Spain

   New Year's Eve - December 31st, ~celebrated in style throughout the region, both Marbella and Puerto Banus indulge in fireworks to celebrate the New Year.
